There has been a regrettable lull in the posting of new videos on the Football Player Ratings YouTube channel lately. This does not mean that there has been work done on our plus-minus ratings, but rather that this work has had a different focus.
Luckily, Garry Gelade and yours truly were recently invited to take part in a broadcast on another channel, the very recommendable Friends of Tracking channel. The first part of the video below is about a competition that the channel organized on analyzing recent goals scored by Liverpool through tracking data. After about 24 minutes, though, Garry and myself begin a discussion of our recent paper on the relationship between plus-minus ratings and event-level performance statistics.
My part of the presentation in the video is more or less an excerpt of a larger presentation that I have been holding at various occasions. Hopefully I may soon publish an extended version of this to the Football Player Ratings channel as well!
